Looking to trade in that old beater for something a little less embarrassing? Take advantage of the CARS program, better known as “Cash for Clunkers”, and get up to $4,500 in credit towards a new car for trashing your old powder blue Nissan Stanza mini-van (my actual first car). Although the rules prevent you from applying the credit towards any car with a suggested retail price above $45,000 – so no, you can’t get a discount on that 911 – there are a few nice cars that are eligible including the following: Acura TSX, Audi A4, Audi TT, BMW 328, Lexus ES 350, Lexus IS 250, and Volvo S60.
