Late Check Out at the Wynn
One of my biggest pet peeves when traveling are hotels that are sheisty with their late checkouts. Now I understand that when a hotel is close to full occupancy, their maid staff will need some time to clean the rooms for the next batch of guests. But if you're a hotel with plenty of rooms, especially during an off-peak period, be generous with your late checkouts. ESPECIALLY, if you're a five-diamond rated hotel like the Wynn Las Vegas and your guest dropped some decent cash at your hotel for a mid-week bender.
I didn't find this the case last week when I was at the Wynn for a one-day jaunt with some friends. After I got back to my room at 5:30AM on Wednesday, I called the front-desk to ask for a 2PM checkout. After being put on hold for a whole minute, the lady said that I will have to call back after 9:30AM. Slightly pissed that I can't go to sleep knowing that I can get at least six hours of shut-eye, I set my alarm at 10AM so that I can again request a late checkout. After my second call to the front desk at 10AM, I was told by the guy that they are not offering any late check-outs that day. I told him that an hour extension to 1PM would be fine. He refused to budge. When I asked how they could have such a policy on a Wednesday, when I know damn well lots of rooms are empty since the hotel was fairly empty, and the economy is in the shitter with fewer visitors to places like the Wynn who willy nilly drop a grand a day just for the hell of it, this cocky asshole proceed to tell me that the Wynn's occupancy was not an issue. After resisting the urge to walk down to the front desk and pummeling this jack ass, I called back and asked for the General Manager. Within 10 seconds, he extended me a late checkout.
So Wynn, apparently you were able to extend a late checkout. Why would you put your guest, of a supposed five-star hotel, through such a kabuki dance just for a couple extra hours of sleep, especially the reason the guest needs the sleep in the first place is that he was at your damn tables handing over his hard-earned cash?
Despite the fact that they rooms at the Wynn are top notch and their nightclub Tryst is one of our favorites on the strip, The G Luxe Crew will not be staying at the Wynn again and will instead return to our old standbys at The Hotel at Mandalay Bay and The Venetian.
Viva El Recession.

Having identical problem today. Not staying here again.
I had the same experience in January 2011. We just camped in the room for an extra 2 hours. No one bothered us.
