Hublot Masterpiece Collection

Hublot has announced that they will be releasing The Masterpiece Collection in 2011. The Masterpiece, or MP-01 as its called, has been created by the company's top 30 watchmakers and features a titanium barrel shaped case, chronograph movement, and a 10-day power reserve. Only 100 pieces will be made this year so expect a hefty price tag.

A Big Effin Diamond

How big?  85-carat big.  That's the size of the emerald-cut diamond recently unveiled by Chopard.  Not only is it big, the diamond's quality places it in the top 1 percent of all diamonds.  Not sure what one would do with such a big diamond but it's a pretty cool feat of nature nonetheless.

TAG Heuer Carrera MP4-12C

If you're a fan of the new McLaren MP4-12C sports car, you'll like this new special edition Carrera watch by Tag Heuer.  The watch features a 43mm case made of sandblasted titanium, a carbon-fiber style dial, and a Dubois Depraz Calibre 4900 movement.  The watch will be available only at McLaren dealers.

Richard Mille RM 028 America’s Dive Watch

Is it just me or are there a lot of great high-end dive watches out there? Well another one is hitting the market at the end of this month. The RM 028 features a 47mm black titanium case, a skelatonized automatic movement (no idea what that means but sounds complicated), and is water resistant down to 300 meters. I’m assuming the only time such water resistance would come in handy would be if the watch accidentally fell off while diving and it fell to the ocean bottom and you somehow were able to recover it via an un-manned submersible. Could happen I guess. Only 30 pieces will be made each costing $82,000.

Breguet Classique Complications Tourbillon

No, this post isn't about the Breguet Tourbillon watch.  While we're sure it's a fine watch, the reason we're writing about it is the hilarious smart-ass customer reviews on Amazon.  It looks like it started with one funny reviewer and different people started writing up their own faux reviews.  Here is a sample:

"I actually first saw this watch at a neat little store in Luxembourg, as I was refilling my ruby-encrusted helicopter with gasoline made out of unicorn tears. I passed it by, thinking nothing of it, but as I landed on the solid gold helipad of my fourteen-story chateau, it got me thinking: What am I missing in my life? I asked my pedigree manservant to fetch me the name of this trivial timepiece, and with a knowing chuckle I discovered that this Tourbillon watch came from the same countryside workshop as my armoir made of faberge eggs! Hermes Carre H Watch

The last time Crew Member Tandori swung by the States, he brought back with him a bag full of Hermes scarves from the Paris store for all our lady friends.  Hopefully next time he'll bring back this gorgeous Hermes Carre H watch for yours truly.  The square-faced watch was designed by French architect Marc Berthier - no idea who he is - and features a titanium case, Swiss automatic movement with a 44 hour power reserve, and is water resistant to 30 meters.  Not that you'd be stupid enough to wear a $15,000 watch down to 30 meters.  Only 173 pieces have been made.

Jaquet Droz SW Chrono

Truth be told, we've never heard of watch maker Jaquet Droz, although the company's watch making heritage goes all the way back to the 16th century.  Their latest time piece is the sporty yet elegant SW Chrono which features a 45mm stainless steel case which keeps the watch water-resistant down to 50 meters and an in-house chronograph movement that offers a 40 hour power reserve. The watch retails for $16,000.

Ernst Benz John Varvatos Collabo Watch

Our love-affair with all things John Varvatos continues with this good-looking chronoscope watch which is a collaboration between the designer and watch-maker Ernst Benz.  The watch features a 47mm dial, handmade alligator strap, brushed stainless steel case, and a polished domed sapphire glass.  Only 250 pieces are available and each one is water resistant down to 165 feet.  Buy the watch for $6,800.

Louis Vuitton Tambour Diving Watch

Louis Vuitton is updating their Tambour Diver watch which will be available at LV boutiques in January 2011.  The watch will come in a number of color combination including the steel case/black dial version shown above, a 44mm case (39.5mm for the women's), skeletonized hands, and a dive flag motif for the small seconds subdial.  Our guess is that the watch will retail in the $5,500 range.

Movado Bold Chrono Watch

I generally hate Movado watches. I think most of them are generally ugly and cheap looking. However, this new Bold Chrono watch actually looks pretty cool with its blacked-out features. The watch also has a 42.5mm case, Swiss movement, and is water resistant down to 30 meters. The best part is that it’s only $495.

Steel Watches for Tandori

Crew Member Tandori called yesterday asking for help finding a new steel watch.  In the past couple of years, he’s already lost a Rolex Explorer II in Dubai after just one use (he claims the hotel maid stole it) and an Omega Speedmaster after a few months.  Dumbass.  Here are some options for Tandori and let’s hope he manages to hold on to his new watch for longer than the warranty period.

Panerai Steel Luminor 1950 GMT
Personally, I like Panerai watches with leather bracelets, however this Luminor 1950 GMT looks pretty good in steel.  It features a 44mm case, automatic movement, double folding hidden clasp, 3 day power reserve and is water resistant down to 300 meters.  Retails for $9,950 but you can find on the grey market for about $8,700.

David Yurman The Classic Chronograph Watch

Our stunningly hot Facebook friend Diem once told me: "You can't go wrong with David Yurman". I couldn't agree more. One of my favorite items from David Yurman is this 46mm Chronograph Watch from The Classic line.  The watch features the trademark David Yurman twist rope around the caseband, a self-winding movement, and two red chronograph hands that really look great against the black face.  Make sure to also check out their 30 Days of Holiday Glitter & Glamour campaign during December for other great gift ideas.

JeanRichard Diverscope Titanium Watch

If you're like Crew Member Drewsky who fashions himself a naval commando (he's not) and have an appreciation for fine watches, you'll probably dig this Diverscope Titanium Watch by JeanRichard.  The watch has a military styling and features a 43mm wide case in a sand-blasted titanium color, an in-house JR1000 automatic movement, and a gray fabric strap.  While chances are you won't be setting off any underwater explosives anytime soon, feel free to wear this watch on your next nighttime spear-fishing expedition (something Drewsky claims to have done) as the watch is water resistant down to 300 meters.

Big Block Winder

While a Bugatti Veyron will likely set you back a million bucks or more, you can get the engine block of one for just a smidge under six figures.  At least you can if its the Big Block Winder by German-based OriginTimes, which retails for $98,500 and can also hold and wind up to 16 of your favorite time pieces.  The winders that sit in the Big Block were made in-house by OriginTimes and run silently, while the watch holder pillows and the inside of the modules are covered in the finest goat velours leather.

Watch Good Enough For a Goldman Sachs Banker

Looking for a good everyday watch?  Check out this Victorinox Swiss Army Airboss Mach 6 Chronograph that we found on FlyLyf.  Featuring the Valjoux 7750 Automatic Movement, this Swiss chronograph retails for a quite reasonable $1650.  Typically I wouldn't consider a watch by VSA post-worthy but I recall seeing a Goldman Sachs Managing Director sport one during a meeting.  I remember thinking that it was kind of odd for a banker, especially one of that pedigree, to be wearing such an "common man's" watch.  I guess if it's good enough for Mr. Goldman Sachs, it's good enough for us.
