Lotus Evora
We know that the Lotus Elise is one of the most spectacular street-legal sports cars available. We know car enthusiasts and experts praise the car's amazing acceleration and handling, and how you're basically getting a supercar's performance for around 50 grand. However, since aesthetics is just as important to us as performance, we're not fans of the Elise. The car reminds us of a grasshopper, and that's not a good thing.
The Lotus Evora is a different matter. The first totally new model to be introduced by Lotus in almost 15 years, the two-door, mid-engine Evora is larger and much more luxurious than the bare-bones Elise. The Evora is expected to be launched in the summer of 2009 (2010 model) as a 2+2 couple, but Lotus is also expected to offer a two-seat variant that has the two rear seats removed to make way for a luggage area, and a two-seat soft-top convertible model. While exact performance numbers are still not available, expect a sub-5 second 0-60 and a top speed approaching 160 mph. In our humble opinion, the best part of this car is the way it looks. It's sleek, sexy and bound to turn heads, and not because it looks like an over-sized grasshopper.
The car is expected to retail for around $80,000, however, demand is expected to outstrip supply so you'll likely end up paying above sticker. That is of course, unless the whole damn economy collapses.
